Concordia’s FOFA Gallery started off its 2015 autumn season with international flair, including the presentation of a much-anticipated artwork by Indian artist Nikhil Chopra.
FOFA Gallery director Jennifer Dorner said Chopra’s drawing performance is the result of several years of discussions and funding applications.
Working with Concordia faculty member and curator Renée Baert, Chopra performed for 57 hours from September 18 to 20 2015 in a Gazebo at Jarry Park where he camped and drew with lipstick on large canvases of what he could see surrounding his temporary shelter. The drawings were displayed at the end at the FOFA Gallery. The installation echoed the gazebo, and as a gesture of making an exit from his performance, he transforms into the image of a 1980s rock musician .
This work of art, La Perle Noire, was on display at the gallery’s main space until October 23, 2015.
